@ The Drawing Room

It was really good to visit the gallery and to listen to Marie while she was explaining the journey of this very special place. It is indeed an amazing space, not only the concept, but also the building itself! After that we went for a coffee and cake which helped us to structure our action plan. Bit more research to do and lots of layout experiments. Printers, paper, maybe some letterpress??? Colour vs black and white? How to show enough so that it intrigues and not too much so that we don't give it all away?

Initial design and format ideas

The images above were taken from http://grumt.dk/

We really like the layout and use of colour of these pieces.

2 or 3x A2, double sided newsprint folded twice to A4.
Plastic sleeve to function as an envelope, inspired
by the display method
at previous fundraising events.
Printable label/sticker with the address for those publications being through the post.
Simple grid to show the images as small thumbnails.
No binding, loose sheets, fold up posters.
Text/editorial: quotes and simple questions and answers to provoke thought and interest.
Where are we going to get the quotes and answers from?
How much text do we actually need?

The Drawing Room gallery publication brief

The brief is to create an online or printed publication for a fundraising event at The Drawing Room gallery. The aims of the publication are to attract people to the event as well as to inform them of the artists whose work will be showcased.
Things to consider:
  • Low budget
  • Format
  • Printing and binding
  • Content
  • Layout (grid)
  • Timescale and deadlines
First thoughts:
  • How can we get people interested?
  • How can we design something different, unusual and exciting?
  • How can we keep down the costs?
  • How can we challenge the content?
  • What and where to research? e.g. similar events and publications
  • Who to contact? e.g. paper suppliers, printers
  • Where and when can we get the content? images and logos?
